Read more about our October 2019 Safety Council Meeting
October is National Fire Prevention Month and during the October 10th Miami County Safety Council meeting fire prevention was the topic. The Miami County Safety Council was grateful when Assistant Fire Chief Lee Adams with the Piqua Fire department accepted the invitation to speak to the members about “Fire Extinguishers – Class, Types and Uses”. Assistant Chief Adams first lead a presentation about seven different extinguishers, explained what they contained and which ones could be used with what fires. This was a great presentation as we have many participating businesses that work with many different materials. Assistant Chief Adams then led the members outside for a live demonstration. This gave a chance for anyone who has not used an extinguisher to handle one, how the different extinguishers work on different fires and to practice the pull, aim, squeeze, sweep (P.A.S.S) method.
Next month’s meeting will be on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm at Romer’s @ A Learning Place, 201 RM Davis Parkway, Piqua, Ohio. We will learn about the “Intro to OSHA – OSHA’s Inspection Procedures” from Bob Heater, Safety 4U, LLC. November is our giving and goodwill month. Our members can bring up to two additional guests to the November meeting, at the price of two can goods. This is a great time to invite the CEO and get their attendee requirement completed if you are eligible for a safety rebate.
We will be collecting shelf-stable food for the Council on Rural Services Miami County Achievement Center for Educational Success teenagers during the November meeting. Some examples of items they are looking for are granola bars, healthy soups, instant oatmeal, bottles of water, shelf-stable milk, and juices are also good.
To RSVP, go to this page for the current monthly meeting. If you register before Monday of that week’s meeting you will be entered into a gift card drawing.
